Walking has been Prescribed to All Americans by the Attorney General

People are always complaining that they never have enough time to exercise, but you’d be surprised at how many calories you burn when you’re doing everyday activities. Even simple walking. In fact, for obese people a simple walk is probably the best form of exercise.

The US Surgeon General has prescribed it as the single best activity for Americans for its ability to reduce heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. Just about everyone can walk, even the extremely obese. It is a very safe form of exercise.

While diet is still the best way to lose weight, exercise has so many additional benefits that some should be put into any wellness routine. A simple walk every day can be enough, although more moderate exercise is better for those who already lead a healthy lifestyle. Think of walking as your daily maintenance.

An article at the Huffington Post listed nine ways that walking is beneficial that you may find to be an interesting read. If you want to get started with walking, shoot for a half an hour of walking every day. If the roads around your neighborhood are unsafe to walk, just go to the nearest big-box store and walk around. Many obese people secretly get their exercise there. The surface is level, there’s convenient bathrooms and water fountains, and people are walking around everywhere.

Make a resolution to get more walking in your life if you are currently sedentary, and consider getting a consultation with me about your diet. Walking will help strengthen your heart and burn calories, but diet is the key to true sustained weight loss.
