5 Ways to Boost Your Immune System This Season

organic food to boost your immune system

As we all know, winter is coming quickly and that means that we need to put extra effort into preparing our immune system for the cooler weather. Although you should be taking action to boost your immune system year-round, it’s especially important as the temperatures start to drop during the seasonal shift. Here are some of the easiest and most effective ways to strengthen your immune system!

Exercise

Whether you do intense cardio, weight lifting, or just walk around the block, regular exercise is one of the best ways to build a strong immune system. As you move your body, it promotes healthy blood flow and strengthens the antibodies that help to fight infections. Additionally, exercise reduces any unhealthy inflammation in the body that blocks your immune system from working properly. Even just 10 minutes of exercise can make a huge difference, so get out there and move your body!

Organic Foods

The food we eat also has a big impact on our overall health and immune system’s ability to perform its job. Consuming fast food, and heavily processed food in general, can actually cause inflammation throughout the body and lead to a weakened immune system. Organic foods such as these, when eaten as a part of a well-balanced diet, can have lasting positive effects on not just your immune system, but your sleep, mood, alertness, and more as well.

Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting has quickly been growing in popularity over the last few years, though it has been around for a while. There are varying types and styles of intermittent fasting, all of which can have different effects on your body depending on which one you do. While most people see intermittent fasting as a tool for weight loss, it can also be very effective in building up your immune system.

Cold Therapy

As it has been used across a multitude of cultures for hundreds of years, cold therapy is one of the easiest ways to give your immune system a boost. Submerging your body in cold temperatures, whether in the shower, a body of water like an ocean or lake, or an ice bath, activates your body’s natural healing powers.

Supplements

When you feel yourself starting to get sick, your first thought is probably to take some Vitamin-C. While Vitamin-C is a great first step, it is not the only supplement that can help get your immune system strong and keep it that way. Other important and natural supplements that you should look into this winter are Omega-3s, Probiotics, Curcumin, and Vitamin-D.
